Judges are requiring lawyers to specifically say if they used AI or not. This is a sign of things to come. I think we will be obliged to let people know if we are using AI in a wide variety of occupations – not just lawyering.

“Some courts take preventive action against AI misleading the court. At least four federal judges recently issued orders governing how attorneys with cases before them use AI tools.

Senior U.S. District Judge Michael Baylson in Philadelphia on June 6 began requiring attorneys to disclose whether AI was used for court filings and to certify that “each and every citation” was verified for accuracy.

Judges in Texas, Illinois and Washington, DC have also ordered similar disclosures since last month.”
